An important component to keeping campus energized is giving students adequate recreational facilities, which old Lawrence Hall failed to do, even after its connection to Shoemaker. The Master Plan intends to make another center of social activity by replacing the old building with a new rec center of nearly 250,000 square feet.
Although details are still tentative, the center may include multiple basketball courts, two pools, an indoor track, an indoor soccer field, a gymnasium, racquetball courts, a Nautilus area, social areas featuring a pro shop and juice bar, varsity swim team lockers and offices, plus offices for the UC Band.
