For lifelong Bearcats, the pageantry of the homecoming parade is one of the highlights of any year.
When your university holds a special place in your heart, the pull to return to campus can be strong. While UC is always "open" to its former students, two signature weekends --one in the spring, one in the fall -- make coming back a bigger celebration.

Alumni Weekend, held in May 2008, welcomed thousands of alumni to campus for a wide variety of college and all-university events, including the MainStreet Stride foot parade through the center of campus, a Bearcat baseball game, the 69th Sigma Sigma Carnival and Golden Reunion festivities honoring the class of 1958.

Set for the middle weekend of each May, Alumni Weekend is emerging as spring's counterpart to fall's homecoming, giving alumni and their families the chance to get reacquainted with today's UC and each other. Homecoming takes place in 2008 on Saturday, Oct. 11, when the football Bearcats take on Big East rival Rutgers. 2007's homecoming brought record numbers of UC alumni, students and friends to campus, and the same is expected again.

Considering that the theme for the weekend is "All-American Homecoming," it's fitting that reigning Miss America Kirsten Haglund will be the university's special guest and homecoming parade grand marshal. Haglund is taking a year off from her studies in UC's College-Conser-vatory of Music to fulfill her Miss America duties while representing UC in her travels.

Although homecoming is known for being an alumni event, it's very important to current students, as well. In fact, the planning and execution of homecoming activities has largely been the work of the Student Alumni Council, the UC Alumni Association-affiliated group of dedicated future alums who work to instill pride and a sense of "lifetime UC connections" within the student population.
