Completed in May 2006, the Richard E. Lindner Center is the jewel in Varsity Village's crown. The eight-story structure, designed by signature architect Bernard Tschumi and Glaserworks, will serve as the hub for all things athletics at the University of Cincinnati, including a ticket office and gift shop.

Wedged between Nippert Stadium and Fifth Third Arena, the athletics center will house offices for all UC coaches and athletics administrators. The ground floor features the George and Helen Smith Museum, which details the history of the university and the UC athletics program through graphic murals, video screens and a five-story tall trophy case in the atrium. Former student-athletes can drop by the Jack Twyman Traditions Lounge and look up photos and records of their participation.

Additional amenities include reception and meeting space for all programs, along with expanded locker room facilities. A new practice gym will ease the scheduling of Fifth Third Arena, and a new sports medicine training/rehab suite will centralize the athletic training needs of UC's 18 varsity sports. A large MRI facility will serve as the Varsity Village Imaging Center.

One entire floor of the building, the Nancy Hamant Academics Center, will provide study facilities and resources, including more than 80 computer stations, for UC's 530-plus student-athletes.

Beyond athletics, the building also includes space for the University Health Services Center, the new Faculty Club and restaurant overlooking Nippert Stadium and a 335-seat auditorium.

Both the athletics center and Varsity Village are named in recognition of Richard Lindner, who gave the founding gift, $10.2 million, to get the project started.
