UC Magazine Achievements
for academic year 2007-08
Increased print magazine circulation
Magazine circulation increased by 10 percent through three factors:
• President Nancy Zimpher funded a plan to give a free subscription to new graduates who attend commencement. We handed them their first free issue at commencement this year after they came off the stage.
• The Foundation increased its circulation to prospective donors.
• Human resources began offering a free subscription to retiring faculty and staff.
Increased online magazine circulation
• Monthly unique visitors to the online magazine increased by 24 percent.
• Circulation of the e-magazine increased by 10 percent.
Readership survey results positive
The magazine conducted a readership survey this spring that showed the following positive results:
• 96 percent of the people who receive the magazine read it.
• 86 percent of recipients read the magazine within two weeks of receiving it.
• Campus updates, research and rankings are the topics readers like most.
• Every article in the April “research” issue received a significant number of votes as a reader “favorite.”
Awards won
The magazine won three awards this past year:
- Award of Excellence for best overall magazine from the International Association of Business Communicators in its Bronze Quill publications contest
- Silver Award for feature writing and a Bronze Award for most improved magazine from CASE District V
Diversity of coverage
We maintained diversity of coverage, as indicated by the following:
• All 14 colleges were covered during the last year.
• 355 alumni were mentioned.
• Minorities were included in 36 percent of photos.
• Diversity of nationalities, genders, ages, religion, cultures, socio-economic classes, abilities and sexual orientation were well represented and documented.
Alignment with UC|21
• Themes of each magazine are aligned with UC|21.
• A three-page report is generated for each magazine to document the variety of ways content supported UC|21 goals.
