CCM drama prof in London for play revival

"The Cave" is a music-theater work exploring the sacred locations of the burial plots of Abraham and Sarah from the perspective of Arabs, Israelis and Americans.
In London, England, College-Conservatory of Music drama professor Nick Mangano has been overseeing the revival of his production of Steve Reich’s opera “The Cave” at the Barbican Centre early in October. The production will be presented at Lincoln Center for Performing Arts in New York City the first weekend of November.

Having a long-time association with composer Steve Reich, Mangano directed the original international tour of "The Cave" through Europe, in Japan and at the Lincoln Center in 1993-94. The production is an epic presentation of the Biblical story of Abraham, Sarah, Hagar, Ishmael and Isaac, told through text and documentary video footage on five screens, timed with live and sampled music.

Mangano is the head of CCM’s graduate directing program and the Joseph Weinberger Chair of Acting. He has worked professionally on and off-Broadway, in regional theater, in stock and abroad, and his work has received critical acclaim in The New York Times, Los Angeles Times and Opera News.
