In June, producer Kevin McCollum, CCM '84, HonDoc ’05, won the 2008 Best Musical Tony for "In the Heights." The acclaimed Broadway show took a total of four Tony Awards and was nominated for 13. Also nominated for a Tony Award was Faith Prince, CCM ’79, for Best Performance by a Leading Actress in a Musical for her portrayal of Aggie in “A Catered Affair.”

UC alum Kevin McCollum, CCM '84, HonDoc '05, was the featured speaker during the 2005 university commencement.

"In the Heights" also won Best Original Score, Best Choreography and Best Orchestration. The play was also nominated for Best Book of a Musical, Best Performance by a Leading Actor in a Musical, Best Performance by a Featured Actor in a Musial, Best Performance by a Featured Actress in a Musical, Best Direction of a Musical, Best Scenic Design of a Musical, Best Costume Design of a Musical, Best Lighting Design of a Musical and Best Sound Design of a Musical.

Previously, McCollum produced "The Drowsy Chaperone," which one five Tony Awards and eight other Tony nominations in 2006; “Avenue Q,” which won three Tonys, including Best Musical, and three other nominations in ‘04; La Boheme, which won two of the six Tonys for which it was nominated in ‘03; and “Rent,” which won 1996 Tony for best musical as well as three other Tony Awards and six other nominations.

Faith Prince has four Tony nominations for Best Actress and one award for “Guys and Dolls” in ’92.
