Engineering Research Center

9/06

UC’s Engineering Research Center, completed in 1995, was designed by internationally acclaimed architect and designer Michael Graves, a 1958 graduate of UC’s top-ranked architecture program. The building is one of the earliest completed as part of the university’s prestigious Master Plan which has won recognition in The New York Times, The Washington Post and other outlets.

Prior to the Master Plan, a proposal existed to site the building in the middle of the parking lot that later became Campus Green. Instead, the ERC was placed up against Rhodes Hall on a long, narrow site jokingly called a "postage stamp." It is the structure that is viewed straight ahead when one enters campus from University and Jefferson. The building's six-story height blends with those behind it, and its exterior of brick and sandstone complement surrounding buildings.
